High mountain valley with the presence of the emblematic Tuc deth Montarto, 2833 m. It is a starting point for major climbs, such as the north face of the Bessibèrri (3015 m). There are numerous lakes in the area, although special mention must be made of Lake Rius and the Lago de Mar (2230 m), regarded as one of the most important lakes in the Pyrenees, and the deepest one, with a depth of 110 m. The Prat de Ponin area lies on the banks of the Valarties river. It is surrounded by fir trees and red pines. Lighting fires is forbidden, and since the area is somewhat dark, good summer days are the best time to visit it. The C-142 B Road leads goes to the village of Arties, 7 km away from Viella, and where, once inside the village, you can take a track on the right which follows the Valarties river valley to a spot some 6 km on from the village, where a small track forks off right to the picnic area, next to a dike. Ponin and Pònt de Rèsec area Parking. At this point, you must leave your car behind, as the track can only be negotiated by 4×4, although you are not allowed to park at any point along the track, which leads to the Valley of Aiguamog, and on to Salardú.
