It is one of the most important beech and fir tree forest of the Iberic Peninsula with a combination of greens offering the visitor a unique summer color. The forest is located on the southern side of the Vielha tunnel, near the old Hospital de Vielha and the Conangles mountain hostels, at the edge of the Noguera Ribagorza river. Both are open a good part of the year.
The combination of beech and fir trees offer the visitor an unique image starting near the end of spring when the deciduous trees have grown their leaves and the different tones of green mix with the suns rays. The Noguera Ribagorzana river winds joyously between the large 100 year old fir tree trunks, filling the forest with delight and the necessary humidity to produce such beautiful colors, especially in July.
From the Conangles mountain hostel known as “refugio” two interesting routes can be started. One of these towards the waterfall and the lakes of Besiberri under the North and South Besiberri peaks both of which are parts of the 3000 meter high peaks on the Aranese side of the Aigüestortes and Sant Maurici Lake National Park. The other trail goes up above the Hospital de Vielha branching off towards the Molières valley towards the southeast and the Port de Rius towards the north.
