The glacial Colomers cirque is the most spectacular and important of the Aigüestortes and Sant Maurici Lake National Park. It is located in Aranese lands with more than 30 “lakes” of which are reached from the Baños de Tredòs. The Baños can be reached on a paved road going through the beautiful Aiguamòg valley.
In the Baños de Tredòs visitors will find the hot springs Spa and Hotel of the same name which uses the thermal sulphurous waters. These waters where used by the Romans in the middle ages. After leaving your vehicle in the prepared parking lot take the unpaved road for half an hour to the first “lake” made into a dam in the fifties.
From the Colomers, dam where the refugio (mountain hostel) of the same name is located and open and operational from May to September, departs the circular itinerary which allows the visitor to gain altitude until reaching the five following “estanys” or lakes on the shorter route. On the longer route one will see the marvelous collection of 30 lakes under the amazing Colomers cirque. These lakes are testament to the glacial Quaternary period.
